Great Adventures Active Learning Centre is a bilingual English-Spanish child-centered educational program with a mission to support early childhood development through activities that are safe, fun, challenging, and engaging. This 1,625 square-foot, two-storey building in North Lethbridge will host eight staff members serving fifty children. The heart of the design seeks to balance learning, play and care while tying the exterior design within a well-established, quiet neighbourhood.
The facility’s spaces are organized around five classrooms between the Basement and Main Floor levels. Each classroom maximizes comfort, functionality and features multiple windows to fill the interior with natural light and connection with the outdoors spaces to the North and South. Staff and children have direct access to both the front and rear play areas to promote active movement while within a secured play space. Interior supportive spaces are integrated throughout, with Administrative Offices, Kitchen, and a Staff Room for the well-being of the staff. Circulation throughout the building has been considered carefully to promote safety and ease of supervision. The facility observes barrier-free site parking, access and washroom facility.
The exterior design is well suited to the existing residential surroundings, incorporating a pitched roof form, durable cement board and vinyl siding as well as PVC windows that reflect the character of the existing neighbourhood.
Our team - Client, Contractor, and Consultants - enjoyed working together with the Building Owner’s leadership and vision to produce an environment tailored to the needs of children, educators, and families alike.
